PhD Student<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I am a PhD student working under the supervision of Prof. Roberto Assef. My current work focuses on understanding the role of AGN in galaxy evolution, beginning with a focus on high-redshift quasars, which likely reside in the universe\u2019s densest regions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Projects<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

A recent study found that the region surrounding the z=6.9 quasar VIK J2348\u20133054, as measured by the density of companion Lyman Alpha Emitters (LAEs), is about ten times above that expected for an average field, providing strong confirmation that this quasar is situated in an environment, as expected. However, the same study also observed a surprising lack of LAEs within 5.15 Mpc of the quasar, suggesting that the quasar’s intense radiation may be suppressing star formation in nearby low-mass galaxies. Building on this, I will be focusing on investigating the distribution of Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs) in the field, by adding recently obtained Y-band imaging. LBGs, being more massive than LAEs, are likely less affected by the quasar\u2019s radiation, making them ideal for studying the quasar’s influence on galaxy formation. We expect LBGs to appear in regions from which LAEs are excluded, which may reveal insights into how quasars impact galaxy formation over cosmic time. Spectroscopic follow-up of LBG candidates will support and strengthen our findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love dancing especially Indian classical styles like Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi and I never miss a chance to sneak in some Bollywood and Hip Hop too! In my free time, I’m usually listening to music or dreaming about my next trip. I would love to travel the world and see new places!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
