Estudiamos las propiedades de su medio circungal\u00e1ctico y sus entornos m\u00e1s cercanos, buscando la presencia de halos Lyman Alfa y emisores Lyman Alfa cercanos. Nos interesa estudiar sus entornos a gran escala donde se encuentran estos objetos, que se prev\u00e9 que sean muy ricos. Para ello, como punto de partida, inspeccionaremos los campos de tres fuentes, utilizando datos de im\u00e1genes profundas del HST y VLT\/FORS2, y espectroscop\u00eda de Magellan\/LDSS3. Tambi\u00e9n inspeccionaremos las propiedades de sus galaxias anfitrionas, tal como las obtuvo ALMA (5 fuentes), y de sus regiones m\u00e1s internas (5 fuentes; los datos del VLT\/X-Shooter se obtendr\u00e1 espectros de decenas de millones de fuentes en el hemisferio sur. 4MOST se divide en varios estudios p\u00fablicos, incluyendo el Estudio de Evoluci\u00f3n de AGN y Galaxias de Chile (ChANGES). Este estudio p\u00fablico obtendr\u00e1 espectros de millones de n\u00facleos gal\u00e1cticos activos (AGN), seleccionados de diversas maneras. En este proyecto, lideramos la selecci\u00f3n de candidatos a AGN con base en sus distribuciones de energ\u00eda espectral, que conformar\u00e1n aproximadamente el 50% de la muestra final de class=\"premium-modal-box-modal-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Las galaxias oscurecidas por polvo caliente, o Hot DOGs, son algunos de los cu\u00e1sares oscurecidos m\u00e1s luminosos conocidos en el universo. Se espera que los cu\u00e1sares y las fusiones, en general, desempe\u00f1en un papel fundamental en la evoluci\u00f3n de las galaxias masivas. La idea es que las fusiones puedan impulsar el gas desde el medio interestelar (ISM) hacia los agujeros negros supermasivos centrales, desencadenando un intenso episodio de acreci\u00f3n (conocido como cu\u00e1sar) que inicialmente est\u00e1 completamente oscurecido por el polvo, pero que finalmente la presi\u00f3n de los fotones o los chorros de radio elimina parte de este polvo, pasando a la fase tradicional de cu\u00e1sar, y finalmente detiene la formaci\u00f3n estelar en la galaxia. Una serie de estudios (p. ej., Stern et al. 2014, Tsai et al. 2015, 2018, Assef et al. 2015, 2022, Diaz-Santos et al. 2016, Wu et al. 2018, Zewdie et al. 2023) hemos demostrado que los Hot DOG y sus entornos tienen caracter\u00edsticas que hacen probable que estos objetos correspondan a esa primera fase de la evoluci\u00f3n, cuando la acreci\u00f3n muy intensa est\u00e1 completamente envuelta en polvo. Diaz-Santos et al. (2018) demostraron dram\u00e1ticamente que esta imagen es probable para el Hot DOG m\u00e1s luminoso conocido, W2246-0526, al encontrar que el Hot DOG est\u00e1 en el centro de una fusi\u00f3n m\u00faltiple, con colas de marea polvorientas que lo unen a sus tres vecinos m\u00e1s cercanos. En este proyecto, hemos llevado a cabo observaciones similares a las de Diaz-Santos et al. (2018) en una muestra de 4 Hot DOG m\u00e1s para determinar si estas estructuras se observan com\u00fanmente en estos class=\"premium-modal-box-modal-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Las galaxias oscurecidas por polvo caliente representan una fracci\u00f3n significativa de los cu\u00e1sares intensamente oscurecidos m\u00e1s luminosos conocidos en el universo. Un peque\u00f1o subconjunto de ellas, conocidas como BHD, muestra un exceso de emisi\u00f3n azul, que se cree que surge de la luz dispersada del cu\u00e1sar altamente oscurecido. Estudios detallados de tres de estos objetos (Assef et al. 2016, 2020) utilizando observaciones de su morfolog\u00eda con el telescopio espacial Hubble, de la emisi\u00f3n de rayos X con el telescopio espacial Chandra, de sus distribuciones de energ\u00eda de espectros UV a infrarrojo medio y de sus l\u00edneas de emisi\u00f3n UV llevaron a la conclusi\u00f3n de que el exceso de azul se debe a la luz dispersada del cu\u00e1sar oscurecido que alimenta el infrarrojo medio. Espec\u00edficamente, encontramos que aproximadamente el 1% de la luz del motor central oscurecido escapa en alguna direcci\u00f3n y luego se dispersa en nuestra l\u00ednea de visi\u00f3n. El AGN es tan luminoso que solo el 1% de su luminosidad es suficiente para ocultar por completo la galaxia anfitriona debajo de \u00e9l. Recientemente, en Assef et al. (2022), utilizamos observaciones polarim\u00e9tricas de imagen con FORS2 en el VLT en la banda R de un BHD (W0116-0505, z = 3,173) para confirmar la naturaleza del exceso de azul como luz dispersa y derivar las propiedades del medio dispersante. Nuestro modelo preferido es que el dispersor es un viento de salida masivo impulsado por el cu\u00e1sar detectado por Finnerty et al. (2020), que podr\u00eda transportar m\u00e1s de 1000 M_sun\/a\u00f1o de gas. En este proyecto, estamos obteniendo m\u00e1s observaciones polarim\u00e9tricas de imagen (ImPol) de BHD utilizando FORS2 en el VLT. Primero, obtendremos observaciones V e I ImPol de W0116-0505 para delimitar mejor la naturaleza del material dispersante. Tambi\u00e9n obtendremos observaciones ImPol en R de cuatro BHD adicionales para evaluar la prevalencia de fracciones de alta polarizaci\u00f3n en estos objetos, determinar si todos pueden modelarse con los mismos par\u00e1metros f\u00edsicos y evaluar la posible relaci\u00f3n con efluentes gaseosos masivos para probar un escenario propuesto recientemente para la secuencia evolutiva de cu\u00e1sares luminosos.
