Leopoldo Infante is a staff astronomer at the Carnegie Institution for Science and a full professor in astrophysics at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). He earned his undergraduate degree in physics at PUC and his doctorate (PhD) at the University of Victoria, Canada. Currently he is the director of Las Campanas Observatory (LCO) of the Carnegie Institution for Science. He has been visiting professor at the universities of Princeton and Johns Hopkins in USA and associate scientist at ESO, Vatican Observatory, Bohn University and University of Victoria. He was director and founder of the PUC Center for Astroengineer until 2017. For seven years he was the director of the PUC Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics (now Institute of Astrophysics) and president of the Chilean Astronomical Society. He´s research involves observational extragalactic astrophysics and cosmology. As of August 2018 his research record include 398 publications, of which 238 are refereed ISI papers. These papers have been cited more than 13,648 times. He has obtained several awards both national and international; for instance “Beca Presidente de la República” and the Guggenhein Foundations Award. He belongs to the American Astronomical Society, The American Institute of Physics, International Astronomical Union and the Chilean Astronomical Society. He served in the AURA Board of Directors and the AMCL Committee. In 2015 he was member of the “Comisión Presidencial Ciencia para el Desarrollo”.

In the last years he has formed two undergraduate students (Daniela Fernandez and Stefano Garcia), one MSc student (Paulina Troncoso), 3 PhD students at PUC (Jorge Gonzalez, Paula Aguirre and Joaquin Prieto) and has been supervisor of 6 postdocs (Huan Yang, Zhenya Zheng, Sam Kim, Mia Bovil, Ivan Lacerna, Markus Rabus and Regis Lachaume).

Infante has taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses. Among them, General Astronomy, Experimental Astrophysics, Cosmology and Dark Matter, Physical Processes in Astrophysics and Advanced Extragalactic Astrophysics. He has been advisor and reviewer of many graduate (MSC and PhD) and undergraduate theses.
