Abstract:

I will present the Stochastic Order Redshift Technique
(SORT), a simple, efficient and robust approach to improving
cosmological redshift measurements based on stochastic ordering.
The method is suitable for pencil-beam-like surveys and wide
surveys alike, and requires the presence of a ‘reference sample’
with precise redshift measurements that will be used to improve
the rest of the sample with a much larger redshift uncertainty. I
will present the initial results of this technique when applied
to a mock galaxy survey produced from state-of-the-art N-body
simulation under simple assumptions. In particular, I will
emphasize the ability of SORT to recover the distinctive features
of the so-called ‘cosmic web’, among other statistical
measurements.
