The Astronomy group at the Faculty of Engineering of Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) in Santiago, Chile, is offering at least one faculty position in astrophysics. The requirements are a Ph.D. in astronomy or a closely related field, and a demonstrated ability and commitment to excellence in independent research.
The successful candidate will join a young and active astronomy group of four faculty and six postdocs working on a broad range of research topics. The position is open to all areas of observational, experimental, and theoretical astrophysics. The primary qualification is excellence in research. The position carry teaching duties in astronomy at the undergraduate level, with a load of no more than two courses per year. The new faculty will also be expected to actively participate in establishing a graduate program in astronomy at UDP. The working language is English. Knowledge of Spanish is not required nor expected for this position (teaching can be done in English). The position is available from August 2016, but a later starting date can be arranged to accommodate the needs of the successful applicant.
The successful applicant will have access to 10% of all telescope time in Chile, including ALMA, VLT, Gemini, Magellan, and other telescopes in the country, including in the future facilities such as the GMT and the E-ELT.
