I am an associate professor studying accreting supermassive black holes at the center of galaxies, and I am particularly interested in how they accrete and how they interact with their close environments. At UDP I am leading the High-Energy Research on Obscuration and Emission in Supermassive black holes (HEROES) team.

Proyectos
With the HEROES team we are studying several aspects of accreting supermassive black holes. We are interested in understanding their accretion properties, their variability properties and the structure and evolution of the material that surrounds them. We mostly study nearby AGN using data and models across a wide range of wavelengths (from radio to X-rays).
Highlights
- I co-founded and I am co-leading the BAT AGN Spectroscopic Survey (https://www.bass-survey.com/) a large international collaboration that is studying in detail a sample of 1000 nearby accreting supermassive black holes across the whole multi-wavelength spectrum.
- In the past few years I have written two invited reviews on Nature Astronomy on different aspects of black hole accretion (Ricci & Trakhtenbrot 2023, Ramos Almeida & Ricci 2017), and I am currently writing a big review focussed on the X-ray properties of accreting supermassive black holes for Reviews of Modern Physics (Ricci 2024).
- I am a member of the AAS editorial board, where I serve as scientific editor for the AAS journals (i.e. ApJ, ApJL and ApJS).
- I am also a long-term visiting professor at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University, in China, and an affiliated faculty at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of George Mason University, Fairfax, USA.
