Sara Vitali

I am currently working on my PhD thesis which is about the study of the structure and evolution of the Milky Way and its satellites. Specifically, I am interested in characterising the chemical evolution of the Sagittarius Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy.

Current position: PhD student

My main project consists of the study of the chemical evolution of Sagittarius. Using spectroscopic analysis, I intend to investigate its stellar populations to trace back its history and to investigate the role of the interaction with the Milky Way. I am also working on a project concerning age calibration from spectroscopy alone by calibrating chemical clocks (chemical abundance ratios especially sensitive to ages).

Aspectos destacados:

  • I am part of the Pristine Survey, a collaboration which searches and studies metal-poor stars in the Milky Way and its satellites.
  • I worked at ESO with a six months studentship.
  • During the first semester of my PhD I did a studentship at the Nord Optical Telescope, working as a support astronomer.

Actividades extracurriculares:

I am very keen on outdoor activities, trekking climbing. I am really interested outreach activities that can put me in contact with realities other than the academic one (such as schools or other cultural environments).
