Astropoetic Dictionary

This exhibition brings together the work of students from the General Education (GE) course on Astronomy and Literature, who explored complex scientific concepts to transform and explain them through poetic language. The course assessment is materialized in this series of inclusive astronomy cards: each one presents an astronomical concept labeled in Braille, accompanied by a QR code. Scanning the code provides access to voice recordings of the students themselves, who narrate their definitions and short poems. A sensory and pedagogical experience designed to break down barriers and bring the secrets of the universe closer to everyone.

This distinctly transdisciplinary course is co-designed and taught by astronomer and inclusive astronomy communicator Erika Labbé, along with poet and creative writing teacher Alejandra del Río. This pedagogical approach has now consolidated its success with five completed versions and a sixth currently underway.

This semester, thanks to “Vértice UDP” funds obtained, students have the opportunity to work more closely with visually impaired people than in previous semesters, and generate tactile and auditory material, the first results of which are the cards mentioned, which contain the texts published in this article, in audio format.

Through this sonic and tactile journey, students manage to translate phenomena of the universe into sensitive verses, demonstrating that knowledge of the sky can be felt with the hands and the heart.
