Open PhD positions for 2026

The Institute of Astrophysical Studies at Universidad Diego Portales is excited to announce the opening of applications for its Ph.D. program in Astrophysics for the academic year 2025. This four-year program invites passionate individuals to dive into the fascinating fields of planetary systems, stellar and galactic astronomy, extragalactic astronomy, and numerical relativity.

Key features:
  • Early Research Engagement: Students are encouraged to begin their research activities in their first semester, allowing for a hands-on approach to learning and discovery.
  • Access to Premier Facilities: Successful candidates will benefit from access to major observatories across Chile, including ALMA, Gemini South, VLT, and more, as well as participation in large surveys such as the Vera Rubin LSST.
  • Diverse Community: Join a vibrant academic community with over 20 students from 12 different nationalities, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and collaboration.

Application requirements:

1. A motivation letter indicating your reasons for applying to the PhD. program at UDP, research experience (if any), research interests, and career plans and goals (two pages maximum). Potential applicants are encouraged to contact the faculty members who best match their research interests to learn more about possible research projects.

2. A Curriculum Vitae (3 pages maximum).

3. A copy of undergraduate and/or graduate degrees or a letter from University official indicating the expected graduation date.

4. A copy of undergraduate academic transcripts (graduate transcripts too, if available).

5. A copy of the student application questionnaire, which can be downloaded from the “Program documents for Applicants” section below.

6. A minimum of two and a maximum of three letters of recommendation uploaded by the referees via the google form below by September 22nd, 2025.
