Andrea Bernardi

PhD Student, starting in Fall 2026

I’m currently a visiting student at the IEA, and will start my PhD in March 2026, and will be working with Alice Zurlo on the detection of exoplanets and exomoons (mainly with the direct imaging technique) and on the orbital characterization of planetary systems.

Projects

My current project is focused on the reduction of SPHERE data, in order to obtain spectra and photometry of substellar companions. I also work with VLT/ERIS data for the characterization of substellar companions orbiting young stars. I use tools like orbitize and orvara in order to perform orbital fits for planetary systems, to find more accurate orbital constraints and precise orbital determination.

Extracurricular activities

Playing football, travelling and playing music.
