The Astronomy Nucleus of Universidad Diego Portales is looking to hire up to three new faculty members at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level.
The requirements are a Ph.D. in astronomy or a closely related field and a demonstrated ability and commitment to excellence in independent research. Experience advising Ph.D. students and a high publication rate is desirable and expected for those applying at the Associate or Full Professor level.
The successful candidate will join a young, vibrant, and productive astronomy group of 8 faculty, currently 5 postdocs, and a rapidly growing Ph.D. program with 14 students working on a broad range of research topics. The position is open to all areas of observational, experimental, and theoretical astrophysics and carries teaching duties in astronomy at the graduate and undergraduate level, with a load of no more than two courses per year.
The new faculty will also be expected to actively participate in the recently created graduate program in astrophysics at UDP by advising and interacting with students. The successful candidate will have access to 10% of all telescope time in Chile, including ALMA, VLT, Gemini, Magellan, CTIO, SOAR, and other telescopes, as well as access to future facilities such as the Vera Rubin Observatory, GMT and E-ELT. The new faculty is expected to start in January 2022, but other starting dates could be accommodated.
We invite prospective applicants to submit their CV, a 3-page research statement, a 1-page teaching and mentoring statement, and a cover letter in a single PDF by April 21, 2021 to [email protected] to ensure full consideration. Applications will be received until the positions are filled. Applicants should also provide the contact information of three references that can submit recommendation letters. The UDP Astronomy Nucleus is committed to equal opportunity and diversity in its workforce. We encourage applications from women and minority groups and welcome applications by dual-career academic couples. Researchers whose productivity has been particularly affected by the pandemic should specify this in the cover letter.
