Suman Saha
ESO-Chile Postdoctoral Fellow
I am a postdoctoral fellow at the Instituto de Estudios Astrofísicos (IEA) of Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) in Santiago, Chile. I earned my PhD in 2023 from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) in Bengaluru, India.
My research focuses on the detection and characterization of transiting exoplanets, their atmospheres, and potential exomoons. I work with data from cutting-edge space- and ground-based observatories—including JWST, HST, TESS, CHEOPS, and Gemini—to investigate how exoplanetary orbits and atmospheres have evolved over time, and how these properties relate to their formation histories.
More details about my latest projects and expertise can be found on my personal website.
Proyectos
- Atmospheric characterization of ultra-hot Jupiters (UHJs) using JWST, through precise transmission and emission spectroscopy, to investigate their atmospheric evolution, dynamics, cloud structures.
- Probing the long-period cold gas giants using high-resolution transmission spectroscopy with Gemini/GHOST to study their atmospheric compositions and cloud properties.
- Understanding the formation and evolution of Neptunian desert objects and their atmospheres through transmission and emission spectroscopy with JWST.
- Uncovering planetary companions to long-period transiting exoplanets through transit-timing-variation (TTV) follow-ups to understand their demographics and dynamical evolution.
- Systematic search for exomoons around long-period transiting exoplanets using the precise photometric capabilities of JWST and upcoming next-generation surveys such as Roman and PLATO.
