Public outreach book about science led in the Astronomy Nucleus
Prof. Paula Jofre from the Astronomy Nucleus publishes her first outreach book entitled “Fosiles del cosmos – descifrando la historia de la Vía Láctea”. This book is motivated by the need to have literature for the General Formation course “Estrellas de la Via Lactea” given by P. Jofre at UDP.
The book uses the Gaia mission from ESA to explain the stars, and how they serve us to study the Milky Way. These are contemporary topics, therefore the book illustrates how the international collaborations work in modern science. This is done through testimonies of other 36 women at different stages of their careers and from different countries, among them Danielle de Brito Silva, a PhD student from the Astronomy Nucleus. Like this the book highlights the female participation in this field, which is as strong as the male participation today.
