Sophie Venselaar

I am a PhD student focussing on Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) under the supervision of Prof. Claudio Ricci. My current work focuses on the millimeter, X-ray and ultraviolet (UV) emission from very luminous, nearby AGN.

Current position: PhD student

Projects

The millimeter and X-ray emission from the most rapidly accreting supermassive black holes: I am currently working with Prof. Claudio Ricci on the X-ray versus millimeter correlation for high bolometric luminosity AGN and I am using ALMA and Swift observations to investigate this relation. This will ultimately contribute to the understanding of the origin of the X-ray and millimeter emission and will further help investigate highly obscured AGN.

Extracurricular activities

I enjoy creative things such as painting and ceramics. Furthermore, I like working out by dancing and I discovered hiking now that I live close to the beautiful nature of Chile. When in nature, I enjoy photography as well.
