The Ph.D. program in Astrophysics at Universidad Diego Portales is pleased to announce the start of the application process for the academic year 2023 (https://jobregister.aas.org/ad/093bd3fb). The program is offered by UDP’s Astronomy Nucleus, which is characterised by active faculty and an international student body. The Ph.D. program is 4 years long, and students are expected to start research activities during their first semester in one of the following research areas:
Planetary systems: extrasolar planets, high-contrast imaging, planet formation, protoplanetary disks, and laboratory astrophysics of cosmic dust.
Stellar and Galactic astronomy: galactic transients, galactic archeology, stellar spectroscopy, stellar evolution, black holes, and gravitational theory.
Extragalactic astronomy: Active Galactic Nuclei, supernovae, extragalactic transients, submillimeter galaxies, galaxy evolution, dwarf galaxies, and extragalactic stellar populations.
Requirements:
Applicants should have an undergraduate and/or master’s degree in Astronomy (or closely related fields), full-time commitment, and should be fluent in English, which is the official language of the program.

a) Motivation letter (in English) indicating your reasons for applying to the Ph.D. program at UDP, research experience (if any), research interests, and career plans and goals. The letter should also indicate the preferred starting date (March or August 2022). Potential applicants are encouraged to contact the faculty members best matching their research interests to learn more about possible research projects.

c) Copy of undergraduate and/or graduate degrees (if already obtained) or letter from University official indicating expected graduation date (if the degree has not been obtained). Accepted applicants will be required to present original or legalized copies of the degrees before registration.
d) Copy of latest academic transcripts available. Accepted applicants will be required to present original or legalized copies of these transcripts before registration.
e) A minimum of two and a maximum of three letters of recommendation sent directly to [email protected].
